Plum Island Trip
Lantern Walk to Cedar Island Lighthouse

Local Events

  • 2007 Plum Island Trip

This year's Plum Island Lighthouse trip took place on Friday, August 17. We were permitted to assemble 35 history buffs and lighthouse enthusiasts and we had a glorious day. Our group included members of LIC-USLHS, Save Huntington Harbor Lighthouse, Horton Point Lighthouse, Southold Historical Society, Cutchogue New Suffolk Historical Council, Brecknock Hall Foundation, Fire Island Lighthouse, East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation, and former Plum Island Lighthouse Coastguardsman Rich Kenny....a very knowledgeable and impressive group! Our hosts on Plum Island were Kris Garland and Director Dr. Barrett, who is very interested in restoring the lighthouse and has budgeted for repairs beginning this year. He said "After all, it is our logo!" We have sent him the architectural surveys he requested to help establish priorities in the work and we included the final steps to achieve listing on the National Register of Historic Places. We had a great day, a very successful trip, and we are now looking forward to seeing a stabilized Lighthouse with a bright future. Thank you again to our hosts who gave generously of their time, both in preparation and throughout the day.

  • Lantern Walk to Cedar Island Lighthouse

    Hello,
My name is Bob Allen and on Saturday, July 12th, Iwill be giving my first "Walk Back in Time" free Cedar Island Lighthouse tour of 2008. My great-grandfather, William H. Follett, was the lighthouse keeper at the Cedar Island Lighthouse from 1917 until 1934. To join me on my lighthouse tour all you have to do is meet me by the playground area in the Cedar Point Park located in East Hampton at 11:00 AM. If you need any further information you are welcome to call me on my cell phone which is (631) 481-6248.

For information or to schedule a free Lantern Walk contact Bob Allen, Chapter Director and great grandson of William Follet, the last Cedar Island Lighthouse Keeper. Bob can be reached on his cell phone at (631) 481-6248.

  • 2nd Long Island Lighthouse Challenge May 20-21 2006
This year's challenge was taken by more than 400 lighthouse enthusiasts, many from out of state, and included travelers from 5 countries. We had a great time hosting the event and hope all of you had an even better time visiting our historic lighthouse sites.

  • New York Harbor Lighthouse Cruise July 15 2006

This years Spring/Summer cruise took us into New York Harbor. More than 150 lighthouse enthusiasts had a terrific day cruising into and around New York Harbor on the Sherryl Princess, viewing lighthouses and lightships, dining onboard and sharing the fun with family and friends. Thanks to Chatt Chapman for the arrangements and prize drawings, and to Bob Muller for the great narration at each stop.
